Eradication of indirect contact transmission of SARS-CoV-2 by developing antimicrobial surfaces with inorganic antimicrobial additives

The project aims to develop, as a preventive measure to limit the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, antimicrobial surfaces capable of eliminating or significantly reducing the viral load on them.

We will evaluate a series of novel inorganic glass / glass-based antimicrobials with a high content of calcium oxide (CaO) or zinc oxide (ZnO) and / or supported nanoparticles of silver or copper that will act as active antimicrobial agents.

Different technological strategies will be studied to develop coatings with these materials on ceramic, polymeric and metallic surfaces.
