Surfaces and Molecules Laboratory
In our laboratory we study materials’ surfaces and their properties. Materials’ characterization is mainly performed by scanning probe microscopies, which are also complemented with electron spectroscopies acquired in synchrotron radiation facilities. Although we study several types of materials ranging from two-dimensional materials to molecular systems, our current research interest is focused on the synthesis of carbon nanostructures. These materials can display impressively varied properties depending on their precise chemical structure. By applying surface-supported chemistry under a vacuum environment, we synthesize nanographenes and study their chemical, electronic, and magnetic properties.
